2hSteelers head coach Mike Tomlin said Joey Porter Jr. is considered day-to-day with an undisclosed injury.

This does not give us much to go on. We’ll take solace in the fact that Porter is considered day-to-day, rather than something worse, but hopefully the team provides clarity as to what it is he’s dealing with. Backup CB Cory Trice sustained a hamstring injury and OL Calvin Anderson suffered a lower-body injury at tonight’s practice.

3hCardinals released CB Jaden Davis.

The move comes a few days after the Cardinals placed Davis on injured reserve due to a knee injury. Head coach Jonathan Gannon said the team could re-sign Davis later this season.

NYJ Tight End

3hESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that Jets TE Mason Taylor is emerging as a receiving threat.

Cimini believes Taylor “could relegate Jeremy Ruckert to a blocking role at tight end.” While we did not expect Ruckert to command a fantasy-relevant target share, potentially consolidating positional targets is a positive for Mason. He is unlikely to break into the TE1 tier as a rookie but the Jets’ receiving corps is terribly thin.

4hBraelon Allen (knee soreness) resumed practicing after sitting out the Jets’ last two practices.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini reports that the Jets held Allen out of Tuesday’s practice so he could get two days of rest before Thursday’s practice; the team had Wednesday off. Allen was evidently still a little sore on Thursday and only retook the practice field today. Allen appears to be good to go after three days of rest, but following the situation closely is worthwhile. Allen has made waves with high-quality play in practice and is believed to be in line for 1B-type duties behind Breece Hall this year.

4hKeaton Mitchell revealed that he tore his ACL, PCL, LCL and hamstring when he suffered a 2023 knee injury.

Mitchell says that doctors told him this would be a “career-ending” injury. The speedy back may never return to form but his recovery is remarkable in itself. Derrick Henry and Justice Hill have established roles in the offense, so it will be difficult for Mitchell to earn a fantasy-relevant workload. If he can secure eight or more touches per game, down the road, he could warrant flex consideration.

4hBrowns head coach Kevin Stefanski “was noncommittal” on whether Kenny Pickett (hamstring) would fully participate at the Browns and Panthers’ joint practices next week.

Joe Flacco remains the team’s primary quarterback in first-team drills, though Dillon Gabriel has taken some first-team snaps. Shedeur Sanders is the only one of the bunch who has not yet graduated beyond participating with the second-team offense.

4hBhayshul Tuten (hamstring) was limited on Friday and is expected to resume practicing in full next week.

Tuten is being eased into action after straining his hamstring on Monday. He has time to gain ground on Tank Bigsby and Travis Etienne, assuming he remains setback-free.

5hKhalil Shakir left practice early, accompanied by trainers, after having his right leg “rolled up on” during team drills.

The training staff appeared to be examining Shakir’s right ankle on the sidelines before taking him to the locker room for further examination. Shakir notably sprained the same ankle in the Bills’ Week 4 game against the Ravens last year.

5hBroncos head coach Sean Payton said LB Dre Greenlaw suffered a new quad injury that is unrelated to the strain he dealt with this summer.

Payton adds that “all tests came back good” and the team expects him to resume practicing next week. Greenlaw’s return probably should not be viewed as a guarantee given his recent injury history. It’s a positive update for the 28-year-old linebacker though.

5hBroncos head coach Sean Payton said RJ Harvey is a candidate to be a Joker.

As a refresher, the Joker role is played by “tight ends and running backs that are rare receivers.” Harvey has been searching for a serious Joker candidate since he took the Broncos’ head coaching gig in 2023. Payton has made clear that he will not anoint a new Joker by default, but he will continue featuring running backs in the passing game, regardless. Should Harvey lockup the role, he’d have a shot at functioning as the team’s No. 2 pass catcher. TE Evan Engram appears to be his only competition for Joker role, specifically.
